JOB SUMMARY:
The Applications Engineer is responsible for promoting the sale of the air pollution control division’s products which requires engineering knowledge sufficient to make judgments involving applications, installations, and economic consideration, as well as, handling all customer and distributor inquiries requiring technical assistance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Primarily responsibility is to support sales in the quoting, designing, and costing of solutions to customer problems, including prompt responses to inquiries and questions.
- Takes responsibility for managing and prioritizing their own workload effectively to ensure project quotation deadlines are consistently met without compromising accuracy or quality.
- Identifies, analyses, and resolves technical problems independently, applying innovative problem-solving techniques.
- Must be able to articulate the decisions made and develop sound processes behind the solutions developed.
- Handles application inquiries and recommends appropriate products with a high sense of urgency and in a timely manner.
- Apart from sizing components on applications, the application engineer is required to prepare technical RFQs (Request-for-Quotation) for suppliers to quote on.
- Must be able to engage with vendors to secure quotations for both firm offers and budgetary proposals, ensuring alignment with project requirements and cost considerations.
- Will be responsible for conducting thorough technical and commercial evaluations to support procurement decisions, ensuring the best value and compatibility with project needs.
- Provides quotations, both written and verbal, in accordance with ERP and company price lists, electronic quote tool and contractual discount schedules; performs necessary follow-up.
- Assists customers with troubleshooting problems, handles customer complaints, and solves problems in a prompt, professional manner; may be involved in investigating and reporting on warranty claims and return goods authorization (RGA) process.
- Performs costing analysis, when necessary, on product line items versus published pricing to arrive at gross margin calculation for review and approval by Applications and Sales Managers
- Coordinates customer delivery requirements with the Production Department
- Recommends modifications to standard products to meet individual customer requirements, within practical company and economic limitations.
- Takes necessary actions to increase sales of the Division’s products.
- Represents, on occasion, and if necessary, the division at trade shows as well as potential visits to customer for sales or service-related activities.
- Assists in creating marketing literature, website development and other system tools to boost productivity and sales.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Process and/or Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Relevant experience developing system design and engineered package solutions for chemical abatement or separation solutions.
- Experience in air pollution control for industrial manufacturing processes is preferred, and specifically designing complete wet scrubbers, particulate scrubbers, fiber bed mist eliminators package systems.
- Understanding of EPA emissions, European Union Industrial Emissions Directive, Best Available Technologies and BREF requirements is preferred.
- Experience working with materials used in corrosive and/or high temperature and pressure environments.
- Experience working with technical specifications is preferred.
- Understanding of the physics of gas flow is preferred.
- Knowledge of fans and process systems is preferred.
- Experience developing cost estimates and proposals for engineered equipment systems.
- Experience working with air pollution control and product recovery equipment is preferred.
- Experience managing equipment design and supply projects is preferred.
